The crisis in Benue has engulfed 21 out of the 23 LGAs. Official figures had it that over 1.5 million IDPs are presently taking refuge in 8 official and 12 unofficial camps as well as host communities across the State. The immediate needs of the victims are not limited to food, shelter, health care, trauma healing, WASH, education for their children, income earning but also the need for the Government to support their resettlement so they could pick up the bits and pieces of their lives again.
Responding to the plights of victims of terrorists attacks in Benue State Nigeria, Community links and Human Empowerment Initiative (CLHEI) with support from VSF is currently implementing a 6 months project in Gwer-West (Naka IDP Camp). The project seeks to provide 1000 vulnerable households with basic food items and hygiene kits.
The intervention seeks to enhance the recovery of dignity and livelihood of victims of terrorist activities in Benue State through;
- Identification, selection and profiling of 1000 most vulnerable internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Gwer west,
- Distribution of food items,
- Distribution of hygiene kits,
- Educational support,
- Medical support and rehabilitation of the Naka water works.
