Capacity building of Local Government Officials on Climate Change, Risk, Mitigation, Adaptation and Sustainable Solutions was organized between July, 12th – 13th, 2023 in Makurdi LGA and 17th – 18th July, 2023 in Agatu LGA of Benue State by Community Links & Human Empowerment Initiative with support from International Alert.
The Capacity Building training brought together Local Government Officials of decision making capacity and Community members of selected conflict-affected communities under the “Powering Peace through Climate Action” Project to share knowledge and highlight the adverse Climate Change gaps/impacts and community based coping strategies and adaptation options.

The Two-Day Capacity Building Training supports the projects aim to mobilize climate adaption as a neutral entry point to bring divided and marginalized communities together and local government to make climate action more inclusive and conflict sensitive in Benue State.
The training aimed at enhancing capacity of different stakeholders to understand Climate Change better and explains several frameworks, tools and techniques to facilitate planning and designing of community-based adaptation projects.

The specific objectives of the training were to enable stakeholders:
- know the impacts that climate change is having on the natural environment;
- understand how climate change can lead to habitat destruction and how habitat destruction can interact with other aspects of climate change to threaten survival;
- Increase participation in and understanding of Climate mitigation and Adaptation approaches;
- Plan & adopt strategies to adapt to climate impacts on their land, agriculture and food systems.
