Sewuese Mary Kuma

Sewuese Mary Kuma is a development expert with a focus on Gender, Environment, peace & security. She holds a bachelor's and master's degree in Public Administration from the great Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Kaduna state. She has over 10 years of experience in development. She is the founder and Chief Executive officer of Angel Support Foundation, An NGO based in Makurdi, Benue State Nigeria. She believes, women’s empowerment is one of the strongest ways we can bridge the gap of inequalities. Her foundation teaches and support women to setup business and monitor them to ensure sustainability through our soft loan scheme amongst others under the Growing women initiative. Last year 2023, she was an honoree at the African Clean Up conference, where she received an award of recognition for her contributions to her positive efforts towards National-Building and Environmental Sustainability. In 2022, her foundation’s work was an honoree of the Women & gender constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate, and her work Strengthening Women in Benue Communities to Combat Reckless Mining was published in the Gender Just Climate Solution’s 7th publication. She was awarded the 2023 Activist of the Year 2018 by Women on Fire International, the 2019 Outstanding Youth Peacebuilding award by Building Block for Peace, under the Nigerian Youth 4Peace Initiative, 2019, Climate Ambassador’s award, in 2022 she got an ambassadorship from the Institute for Economics and Peace. She earned executive certificates in Environmental Standards and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) from a World Bank Center of Excellence; Center for Innovation in Procurement, environmental and Social Standards, Conflict Management from the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution Abuja- Nigeria, conflict Analysis from the United State Institute for peace and conflict resolution through Institute for crisis resolution, peacebuilding, and reconciliation. From the prestigious Lagos Business School, she earned in Sustainability of NGOs and corporate organizations and Sustainable Waste Management training. She has also gained several training and attended workshops in the areas of Environment, Climate change (UNFCCC COPs), peacebuilding, and conflict resolution, nationally and internationally. She is a member of the Institute of Management, African Women Working Group on Gender and Climate Change, institute of Professional Managers and Administrators of Nigeria, the Society of Project Management & Development Professionals International (Senior Member), and Agent for Peace Network Benue amongst others network and collations. Sewuese believes in giving hope, impacting lives and sustainably developing people and communities. She possesses excellent problem-solving skills, leadership and managerial, project management and organization capacity development, Research, Humanitarian support, and communications amongst others. She loves to research, singing, Travel and make a positive impact.
